Select Jewelry For Sophisticated Women

Jewelry, since time began offers a host of the mythical and superstitious. Some stones have healing powers, others will ward off sickness, offer protection, give courage and will even attract the opposite sex. We have all experienced at some time what our birth stone is and what it represents. As there are only twelve months in the year this offers us only the possibility of twelve different gem stones. We are familiar with January being the Garnet, a cousin to the Ruby, February the Amethyst, March the Aquamarine, April the Diamond, May the Emerald, June the Pearl, July the Ruby, August the Peridot, September the Sapphire, October the Opal, November the Topaz and December the Turquoise. Whilst this is all well and good there are some very fine stones out there that were not lucky enough to be chosen as a stone of the month.

Malachite, Lapis Lazuli and Opal come to mind as do Onyx, Tiger eye and Jade. Totally worthy stones in their own right and if you would like to make one of them your own personal favorite, well who’s going to stop you. The stone attributed to be your own just because you were born in that month may not be a color that you warm up to instinctively.

If you happen to be a devotee of the further variety that Jade affords you over Emerald shall we say, then by all means choose that. Jade is the bringer of peace, wiseness, long life and a peaceful death. Emerald bestows healing, success in business and to be able to fortell the future. Hmm. Tell the future? Bring those Emeralds on. Well maybe not. Knowing the future may not be such a neat thing after all, but you get my drift here.

The wearing of Malachite is supposed to be beneficial to the eyes and blood sugar levels. Lapis Lazuli is supposed to make us more kind and helpful and is the stone of fidelity. I once saw a fireplace surround in King Ludwig’s Castle Neuschwanstein in Bavaria made of Lapis. It was a bit excessive but no doubt extravagant in its luxury as non jewelry.

The primaeval connection that Tiger Eye represents is as appealing as animal print silks. It has a luminance that has a universal attraction and is known as a custodial stone and treats eye disease. I guess the eyes have it. Naturally there’s a lot more to gems, stones, silver and gold but for now we have scraped the surface and afforded ourselves the chance to delve a little further next time. For now, merely go out and look, touch and go through the wonder of the bauble and who knows, maybe one will verbalize its own special language to you.

Some Interesting Info About Collecting Gemstones

Collecting GemstonesMost of the time you will find people that collect stamps, some collect coins and other collect collectors beer cans and soda cans with pictures of their favorite sports start printed on them. These are normal things to collect, as they are not too expensive, but then you will find people collecting things like diamond, gold coins, lapidary and gemstones, which gets a bit expensive, just like collecting painting and other more expensive things.

You will find that there are all different kinds of gemstones. These can be precious or semi precious stones and the value with range with how popular and precious they are. You can collect any of the gemstones you like and you can also focus on a select few like the gemstones of your birth month for example. The gemstones in the calendar are as follows:

With this kind of collecting some people say it is obsessive. When it comes to shopping, most of the time females are belittled because of their shopping and spending habits. They simply love shoes and collect them, or perhaps they love handbags and collect those. There are also males who have shopping collecting down to a fine art. This could be with items like CD’s or Computer equipment.

This is the whole idea behind collecting something. You buy it to keep it, and may even look at it now and again. With Lapidary/gemstones it is exactly the same thing, you buy them or find them so that you can add them to your collection, so that you can get a bigger collection.

When you are looking at the actual stone, the depth of color is usually an indicator of a high quality gemstone. Of course with Diamonds you have to look at the 4 C’s, namely cut, color, clarity, and carat.

Lapidary or gemstone collecting is more like collecting art, and you should look at the gemstones in this way instead of just stones that make up jewelry. You can of course collect the jewelry, but lapidary can also be used to sculpt and create wonderful shapes and patterns using gemstones that are too large to place inside a price of jewelry.

You might need to use a certain cleaner and keep them stored in a certain place or way so that they are preserved as best as possible and kept in mint condition. Before you go out and become a collector of gemstones you should do some research into lapidary first and make sure that you understand everything about them before you go ahead and start spending money on them.
