People have been fascinated with horse jewelry (jewelry with horses on it) throughout the ages. From the most ancient of days to our present era today, families would often incorporate the image of a horse into their jewelry. Usually made from precious metals and gems, such as gold, silver, and diamonds, they were often passed down from generation to generation. They became valuable keepsakes.

Where did this practice come from? This desire to put a “mere animal” into beautiful jewelry that will be owned and loved and yes, shown to others? When we think of the horse it’s not hard to fathom. The horse is an animal with a number of desirable traits…traits that we all hope to possess in our own character. Some of these traits are:

1) Horses are Strong. Throughout the ages horses have been asked to perform many of man’s most menial tasks. We need to think no further than the noble Clydesdale. It can spend all day plowing the fields, and then find time to pull the famous Budweiser Wagon. Any jewelry that incorporates the design of the horse will exude the shear power and strength of this wonderful animal. This form of jewelry is a very popular gift item amongst men.

2) A Horse’s Grace. When you think of grace what come to mind? A horse? This is true for many people. If you watch a horse running along a field you see grace in action. Every fiber of their being seems focused on propelling this beautiful creature along. Beautifully streamlined, this magnificent creature has become the heart’s desire of many a young boy and girl. What happens if we add diamonds to the mix? We come up with a very special blend. Diamonds are also known for their class and elegance, and it’s a gem that marries perfectly with equestrian design.

3) Horse Nobility. Many years ago, during the Middle Ages to be more exact, knights would often ride long in their full battle armor. The symbol of a horse would often be designed onto their shields. What form of transport did the peasant use? Their feet. No horse, no armor, and most certainly no shield with a horse design. If we move ahead to our present day we find that people of high-ranking are often honored with horse jewelry (such as gold brooches and medallions). Sometimes rings with the design of a horse are awarded to people as a sign of their “nobility” or “high social status”.

We have left til now the main reason that people wear horse jewelry. Do you know what it is? It’s because they love this magnificent animal. Sure, like you and I, they have to go to work or school, shop or play, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t display their love of horses to the world.

One of the most cherished possessions of women and men alike is their designer jewellery. There are a few designer names that have always stood out from the rest and have been some of the top selling brands in the world. For example, Tiffany & Co., and Channel are very popular and sought after, both on the World Wide Web and in department stores worldwide.

Many of the designer jewelers create designs with precious metals and gemstones, as well as high quality costume jewelry. The top selling costume jewelers often offer a life time guarantee for all metals and stones used in their designs. Designer jewelry can be quite pricey at times but in the end, is well worth the money.

Consumers should be very aware that because of the popularity, many mock designer creations are also being sold by the truckloads. These fake designers look as close to the real thing, sometimes it takes a trained eye to spot them. Many consumers are taken for a ride everyday, thinking they are purchasing the real thing, when in reality, it is a fake.

There are a few steps that can be taken to prevent this type of forgery. When followed, it will help consumers get what they pay for, even if it means spending a little more.

1. Research the designers. Education on the marks and labels of the designer jewelry or handbags can be vital in detecting a fake. Know what to ask the seller when inquiring about the piece that is found interesting. Ask for certifications, if it is available. If it has been appraised, ask for the appraisal slip to verify that it is not a fake.

2. When possible, buy the jewelry straight from the designer’s department store or a merchant that handles nothing but name brand designs. This can help eliminate shopping for expensive jewelry on line. When shopping on line, a visual inspection is very limited. Just because designer jewelry is being shown, doesn’t mean that’s what is purchased.

3. Check the stones. Many fake designer jewelry makers will often use–k gold and gemstones. The problem is they will substitute the gems that are exceptional quality with those of flawed and imperfect stones. This can greatly decrease the value of the jewelry.

4. Get on forums of the subject. Many have spent their hard earned money on fakes that they thought were real designer jewelry pieces. Find a forum on line and see what they have to say. It can save a lot of time and hassle purchasing an item that is really not as valuable as originally thought.

Owning designer jewelry is not only a pleasure to own, it can also be viewed as an investment. When buying designer jewelry, it is important to know the trademarks of the company. It is also important to realize, you get what you pay for.
